1. There is a definite lack of data on the ecology of the vegetation in and around running water. The authors, in the present paper, have made a study of the floristic composition and seasonal changes in the vegetation in keeping with a change in the water level of the river. 2. 151 plants belonging to 45 families-38 dicotyledonous and 7 monocotyledonous-have been recorded. More attention has been paid to the ephemeral flora occupying the lowermost storey. 3. Seasonal changes in the vegetation have been discussed. The vegetation of upper and middle storeys is left undisturbed as it is beyond the reach of water except in the years of excessive rainfall. This vegetation is characterised by the presence of trees, shrubs or woody perennials. The vegetation of the lowermost storey is ephemeral in the sense that it is totally destroyed by the rising water level during the monsoon. It is only during the hot months that the various tiers of vegetation can be studied simultaneously. The ephemeral flora is dominated by the presence of herbaceous annuals. The water surface during the dry months shows floating hydrophytes such as Lemna, Ipomoea and submerged hydrophytes like Ceratophyllum, Vallisneria, Hydrilla and Chara. 4. Seasonal changes in the vegetation due to changes in the water level in the tributaries follow a somewhat similar pattern. The permanent vegetation remains the same but the ephemeral vegetation is akin to the 'Recession zone' vegetation of the ponds and puddles. 5. Factors like widening of the river, construction of embankments, overgrazing and cutting of grass have affected the growth of vegetation along the banks of the river.- Indigofera angulosa Edgew. - a New Record for Erstwhile Bombay State

The present paper is a result of the authors' three years of botanical exploration of the Gora Range of Rajpipla forests. The forests are Mixed Dry Deciduous type with Tectona grandis as the major constituent. In all 460 plant species have been listed, of which 393 belong to dicotyledons, 64 to monocotyledons and 3 belong to pteridophytes.- Additions to the Flora of Pavagadh Hill, Gujarat State

The family Cyperaceae, because of the difficulty experienced in identifying the members, have been utterly neglected. The aim of the present work is to provide a more up-to-date flora of the family by compiling the available data and the data gathered by the author during the course of various excursions to places in north, central and south Gujarat. The number of species reported from Gujarat region by previous workers comes to 50. To this have been added 14 sedges which are new to Gujarat. Notes on the habit, habitat of these plants along with a distribution chart of all the sedges have been included in the present paper.- A Key to the Identification of the Cyperaceae of Gujarat

In order to facilitate identification, a key based on field and herbarium studies, is presented in this paper. Much importance, no doubt, has been given to the inflorescence character but other characters such as those of nut, stigma etc. have not been lent sight of. The key leads directly to the identification of the plant itself, which is a definite departure from the routine keys to genera and species.- A Contribution to the Study of the Vegetation and Flora of Khedbrahma Region of North Gujarat

The vegetation, and flora of Knedbrahma region of north Gujarat are discussed and the preliminary data based on two years survey are presented in this paper. 554 species have been enumerated which comprised 448 dicotyledons and 102 monocotyledons. Two new records for India namely, Desmodium neo-mexicanum A. Gray and Dalechampia scandens Linn. var. cordofana (Hochst.) Muell.-Arg. have been reported from this area under study. Five species such as Polycarpon tetraphyllum Linn., Melhania futteyporensis Munro ex Mast., Indigofera angulosa Edgew., Pulicaria crispa (Forsk.) Oliv. and Operculina petaloidea (Ghoisy) Van Oost., not mentioned in Cooke's flora of Presidency of Bombay (1901-1908) have been reported from the area.- A New Species of Solanum Linn. from Gujarat, India
